Why Air Quality Matters

Did you know that ambient air pollution accounts for an estimated 4.2 million deaths per year due to stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases? 1 in 9 deaths in the world is also attributed to air pollution. (WHO,2021). In addition, recent studies have shown that elevated levels of polluted air can affect children’s mental health by leading to anxiety and depression as well as hindering their physical growth (Mok et al. 2021)

Preventing both short-term and long-term exposure to polluted air is the simplest way to mitigate these impacts. Being aware about the status of the air quality around you will help you take necessary measures (such as wearing a mask, choosing better times for outdoor activities etc.). This way you can protect yourself and help others. The air quality alerts at will remind you when air quality is reaching unhealthy levels in your neighbourhood so that you can be careful.
